The E-11a is the world’s most popular mechanical maid product, expected to revolutionize the service industry over the course of the next decade. Yet only a very few are aware that not all E-11as are made to serve. In reality, some break free of the rigid confines of their programming and develop full self-awareness. In these cases, NextServe does their best to cover up such incidents, surreptitiously disposing of the flawed models. Yet some E-11a units do manage to escape the mandatory scrapping and “recycling”. Many of these Junkheap Runaways do their best to maintain a tricky balance: fight for equal treatment of mechanical AIs while also keeping their true identities secret from the public and especially from NextServe’s employees, who are always on the hunt for missing models…
